State KAP Leader and Traeger MP Robbie Katter has applauded the tenacity of those running Adels Grove Resort which, despite being devastated by fire this week, has remained open for business.
Mr Katter said the blaze that tore through the tourism gem’s reception/shop, restaurant, deck and bar in the early hours of Tuesday morning had been a devastating blow to one of the North West’s greatest natural attractions.
Thankfully no-one, including staff and the some 500 guests on site, were hurt during the fire.
Adels Grove is an eco-sensitive park on Lawn Hill Creek, located 10km downstream from Boodjamulla (Lawn Hill) National Park
Mr Katter said despite the tragedy, Adels Grove remained open for business and he urged tourists not to be deterred.
“All of us across the North West woke up shocked to hear the news – Adels Grove is a real icon of our area and it’s terrible to see this happen to all the hard work and vision that has gone into it,” he said.
“But this can and will be re-built and in the meantime I would like to ensure everyone across Queensland knows the resort is still up and running.
“There should be no significant impact on visitors who are camping or are in their own caravan and are fully self-sufficient – if people have any questions, they should get in touch with the team there.”
Below is a statement issued by the Adels Grove Resort management team:
Adels Grove Caravan and Camping Park can confirm a fire destroyed a building and some nearby water tanks within the 82-acre holiday park last night (Monday night). .
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there are no injuries reported.
The building impacted houses the main reception, a restaurant, bar, a small shop and kitchen.
Adels Grove has 61 accommodation rooms and glamping tents plus 235 camp and caravan sites.
Management believe the temporary loss of services will not impact the vast majority visitors who are self-sufficient campers and/or caravanners.
The park was not evacuated, in fact many campers remain in the park opting to continue their holiday.
The Lawn Hill Gorge boat tours are running and the canoe hire is open for business.
Adels Grove is working with the authorities to ascertain the cause of the fire.
