KAP Member for Mount Isa Rob Katter was encouraged to hear the announcement of the ‘Northern Australia Beef Roads’ funding commitments by the federal government today.
Mr Katter said the commitment of over $100 million is proof of the effort put in by hardworking individuals, local councils and community groups.
“This funding is something we have all been working very hard for, it’s an achievement all of the North can be proud of,” Mr Katter said.
“If it wasn’t for the advocacy work of the people involved in the Hann Highway Action group and the passionate mayors of our local shires our voices may not have been heard.”
The funding which will focus on Northern Beef Transport routes is expected to increase the competitive capabilities the northern beef market.
“The people of North Queensland have been hurting for a long time, it’s time we had some positive news, not just for our primary producers but also for our regional communities,” he said.
“As we have said before, roads are the lifeblood of rural economies, it’s only through accessibility we can have growth”.
