Katter named Towers charity patron

Katter’s Australian Party State Leader and Traeger MP Robbie Katter has been named the patron of new Charters Towers Charity, Our Town Foundation.

Mr Katter, who was newly-elected as the State Member for the Charters Towers region late last yesterday after a re-shuffle of Queensland’s electoral boundaries, said he was honoured to have been offered the role.

Our Town Foundation is a Charters Towers charity run by locals, for locals.

It was established in 2017 by a number of dedicated volunteers and charity workers who were miffed by the amount of money they raised that was then being spent out of the Charters Towers area – most particularly in South East Queensland.

Mr Katter said fighting for the local community’s fair share was something he was personally and politically passionate about, and as such he jumped at the opportunity to join Our Town Foundation as patron.

“Groups like Our Town Foundation embody what it means to be part of a close-knit, supportive community,” he said.

“We are fortunate in Charters Towers, and across my entire electorate, that we have so many selfless individuals who turn up each week to fulfil unpaid volunteer roles in groups as wide-ranging as the Lions, the QCWA, the local Show Society or the Men’s Shed.

“I am honoured to take on the role of Our Town Foundation’s patron and would like to thank the good people of the management board for giving me the opportunity to be part of their work.”
