Let me hear from you, is Rob Katter’s message to community organisations concerned about State Government funding into the next financial year.
“I’ve had a number of requests for letters of support for children and family organisations who don’t know whether they’re getting State funding for the next financial year, and of course it’s a concern to them,” said Mr Katter, the state member for Mount Isa.
Mr Katter had posed a Question in Parliament to the Education Minister Kate Jones, regarding the funding of the Ngukuthati Children and Family Centre in Mount Isa, following a request for help from the centre last week.
“I’ve had an assurance from the Minister that somehow the State Government will find funding after funding cuts from the Federal government for children and family centres such as Ngukuthati,” Mr Katter said.
“It’s great that the Federal Government has funded the building of this facility in Short Street, and the Mount Isa Family Support Service & Neighbourhood Centre Inc., but it’s important that the ongoing operations of these vital organisations are also funded, and in a sustainable way.”
Mr Katter said it was important for organisations to approach his office with the information he needed to act on their behalf.
“If you need a letter of support, give me the information so I can go in to bat for you, but don’t wait until the last minute.
“I need time and I need the facts if I am to lobby effectively on behalf of organisations in this electorate,” Mr Katter said.
