KAP members Shane Knuth and Rob Katter have welcomed the new legislation to link the pay rises of public servants and politicians.

The new laws which now tie the pay of state politicians to the same wage rises as public servants helps to restore equality to Queensland Mr Knuth said, while addressing state parliament.

“This legislation brings back fairness and balance,” Mr Knuth said.

“Our firemen, nurses, paramedics, teachers and policemen all deserve fair treatment.

“They are No. 1 when it comes to the most valued and trusted professions;  Politicians are rated 49th out of 50, we need to do better,” he said.

Mr Knuth and Mr Katter had previously moved an amendment to link the pay rises, which was knocked back during the last term of government.

“This is a great change for Queensland, I only wish it came sooner,” Mr Katter said.

“We could have saved everyone a lot of time if amendments like this had been taken on board in the first place instead of being denied by the majority.”
