Rural and Regional Adjustment (Development Assistance) Amendment Bill

On 26 May 2016, I introduced new legislation into Queensland parliament to push for a state-owned bank to help farmers crippled by rural debt.

Make no mistake: there is a very serious rural decline happening at the moment which has no chance of turning around.

If we do nothing, there is no opportunity to turn it around. There is a cost-effective way of doing that, and that is by looking at the rural debt situation.

A reconstruction board will work like a normal bank and be an alternate lending instrument that may operate like a bank but takes viable customers.
