15 Dec CASH INJECTION FOR COUNTRY RACING

Race clubs across the Traeger electorate have received significant cash injections from the State Government’s Country Racing Program Funding as 2022 comes to an end.

Amongst the recipients are Julia Creek Turf Club Inc, being allocated $30,000 to facilitate a stable flood mitigation analysis and design, and the Hughenden Jockey Club Inc who are set to receive over $60,000 in funding to deliver an animal ambulance and a swab box.

In what will be a blessing for the club, one of the Electorates smaller race clubs, Ewan Amateur Turf Club Inc is set to receive close to $130,000 in funding to be put toward replacing and improving the inside and outside running rails.

Other recipients include Mount Isa Race Club Inc with close to $200,000 to be put towards stewards towers, Richmond Turf Club Inc with over $50,000 allocated towards a shed for shared barriers and trailer, and the Cloncurry & District Race Club Inc set to receive $55,000 for their barriers shed and tie-up stalls.

Katter’s Australian Party Leader and Traeger MP Robbie Katter made mention that it was great to see these funds being injected which would assist the recipients to make a variety of improvements.

“These clubs usually have in the past run off the smell of an oily rag and a lot of the infrastructure was aged almost to the point of being unusable.

“So these grants will be put to good use.

“The Charters Towers Amateur Race Club has been outstanding in terms of upgrades and capturing grants over recent years.

“This is a huge credit to that committee.

“The KAP strongly supported the governments gaming tax in parliament that will provide capacity for funding like this for many years into the future, from enhanced revenue generated by the growth of online gaming.

“To see these funds continuing to flow through to country racing is promising,” Mr Katter said.
