30 Aug DISASTER LOOMS AT RAMSAY AND KING STREET INTERSECTION: CLONCURRY
The intersection of Ramsay and King Street in Cloncurry is a disaster waiting to happen. The community is fed up, and it is high time the Government steps up and fixes this intersection before a tragedy forces their hand, Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) Leader and member for Traeger Robbie Katter has said.
The Cloncurry community has spoken loud and clear, with three out of ten Cloncurry residents signing a petition to the Queensland Parliament, sponsored by Mr Katter, calling on the Government to act now.
“This intersection is treacherous with frequent near misses, obstructed vision, and the ever-present potential for severe accidents and are placing drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists at serious risk every time they navigate this crossing,” Mr Katter said.
Mr Katter has thrown his full support behind long-time community advocate, Joe Bakhash and Cloncurry Shire Mayor, Greg Campbell in their ongoing push to safeguard the Cloncurry community.
“Mr Bakhash, Mayor Campbell, and the community have repeatedly voiced their concerns to the Department of Transport and Main Roads, with the only response to date being making minor adjustments to the speed limit,” the Member for Traeger said.
“More substantial action is needed from the Government – such as lowering the speed limit to 40km/h as well as urgently building a roundabout at the intersection. These actions will be an effective way to improve traffic flow, slow down vehicles, and increase driver awareness of other road users and conditions.
“The Cloncurry and North Queensland communities deserves to feel safe on and around their local roads.
“The KAP and I will continue to drive real change and be the persistent voice for safer roads across North Queensland,” Mr Katter said.
