EMERGENCY! BREAK GLASS NOW TO SAVE QUEENSLAND EDUCATION: KATTER

How on earth can we expect quality education from our schools if we don’t back our teachers and principals to discipline and instruct the next generation in an effective manner, Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) Leader and State Member for Traeger Robbie Katter has asked.

“Many people try and tell me that ‘it’s not how it’s done now’, but a bit of tough love and care never hurt anyone when I went to school – in fact it made us respect our teachers’ authority even more,” Mr Katter said.

“Not that long ago our school system – regardless of whether you talk state, private, or independent school – was able to effectively control classrooms and student behaviour, and deliver quality education to our Queensland students.

“Now, teachers and principals are hamstrung by their Brisbane departmental bureaucrats who promote woke approaches to discipline.

“This approach is pandering to the classroom disrupters who are not afraid of any consequences and impacting the learning of the majority of our kids who just want to learn and be the best they can be.”

Mr Katter’s electorate office had heard from parents across the state who regale harrowing stories of students forced to shelter under their desks while their troubled classmates threatened and perpetrated violence in the classroom.

The principals at the schools with these violent students were routinely directed to not take affirmative action against these students, and were forced to have them return to classrooms, only to disrupt the learning of keen students yet again.

“It goes without saying that the classrooms I was in during school were a lot more under control compared to what we hear about today,” Mr Katter said.

“If Queensland is serious about the educational outcomes of our next generation, we must equip our teachers and principals with the tools to effectively deliver quality education.”
